Even as the pop world celebrated the genius of Damien Hirst this week, with the unveiling of his cover for Red Hot Chili Peppers’ latest album,I’m With You,the British artist’s art is being shown in Leeds. An exhibition that opens on July 15,traces his art from his student days at Leeds College of Art and Design. One of his first vitrine artworks,Away from the Flock, featuring a sheep suspended in formaldehyde, will share space with a spot design hung in his Pharmacy restaurant in London’s trendy Notting Hill Gate, that closed in 2003. Also on display will be skeletons and wine cabinets that greeted the diners.

Museum Pieces

Artworks worthy of being treasured at museums are being showcased at an ongoing exhibition called ‘Museum Collection-II’ at Art Konsult,in Delhi. This is a continuation of an endeavour that brings together some of the important works of museum quality, with a history of their own. The exhibits have been meticulously selected from the studios of Arpana Caur,Bharti Kher,Bose Krishnamachari,Jitish Kallat,Rekha Rodwittiya,Sudarshan Shetty and Tushar Joag, among others.

Fun’s Many Hues

When it comes to children and art,Ranga Shankara,Bangalore, has some fine examples to offer. Its AHA! International Theatre for Children Fest ‘11,which culminates on July 17,launches a storytelling programme, called ‘The Little Cloud’ on July 16,with the promise of tales from four extraordinary storytellers from India and abroad. They would take the young audience on an enchanting journey while reviving the dying art of storytelling.

For those wanting a dose of classical art, catch the performance by Kapila Venu, the young proponent of the 2,000-year-old Kutiyattam dance form.
