A cook has been booked for allegedly holding his employer hostage at her home and fleeing with the family’s cash, jewellery and other valuables, said Noida Police.

Apart from the cook, police have also booked his two accomplices under sections 305 (theft) and 127(2) (wrongful confinement) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. All three are on the run.

The incident took place on Saturday following which the woman, Suman Yadav, a resident of Noida’s Sector 61, filed a complaint with the Noida Sector 58 police station.

As per the FIR, Suman said she lives with her husband. “Last week, we hired a man, who hails from Bihar, to work at our house as a cook. He was recommended by someone who worked at the house of my daughter, who lives in Gurgaon,” read the complaint.

She said, in her complaint, that she was alone at her house on Saturday. “We also have another house help who had stepped out for work on that day. Around 6.30 pm, the cook allegedly called two accomplices and held me hostage,” she told police.

“The three of them forcibly took the cupboard keys from me and stole cash, jewellery, property papers and other valuables. They then locked me in a room and fled with the family’s Fortuner car,” she told police, as per the FIR. She told police that the family later found the stolen car abandoned near a temple in Sector 61.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Sumit Shukla, said: “Teams from the Noida Police and the forensics department took possession of footage from CCTV cameras installed in the house and the sector and have started identifying the cook’s accomplices.
