Civic body’s revised budget to focus on night shelters

The Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will present its revised budget estimates for the 2010-11 fiscal before the MCD House on Wednesday for final approval.

The Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will present its revised budget estimates for the 2010-11 fiscal before the MCD House on Wednesday for final approval.

The Standing Committee will also present the budget estimates of the MCD Slum and JJ department for approval.

According to the Standing Committee chairperson R K Singhal, the budget estimates emphasise on increasing the MCD’s revenue and have a special focus on night shelters.

Besides, the budget presentation will also stress on a host of revenue generating measures for the MCD. In order to expand its property tax net,the Corporation has also proposed to begin a new survey to identify all registered and unauthorised properties in Delhi.

According to R K Singhal, the need to begin a new survey while the Survey of India is already carrying out an identification process of properties for the Corporation arose since the latter is a time-taking one.

“When the Survey of India released the data of one zone in October last year,we realised it was taking too long and not serving our actual purpose of identifying each property. So we will begin our own survey from next month,” Singhal said.

The MCD has also suggested that the Slum and JJ department be given more autonomy, especially in matters related to disposing of its own properties that will help it generate more

revenue.
