Boy falls into open sewer in Delhi’s Rajokri, rescue ops on

A minor boy purportedly fell into an open sewer in Southwest Delhi’s Rajokri, Thursday afternoon. Police received news of the incident at 1.24 pm, after which police personnel and emergency responders rushed to the scene.

According to police, some local children had witnessed the boy falling into the open drain.

An earthmover was called to remove the sewage material and clear the sewage chamber. The Delhi Fire Services, too, responded to the emergency by sending one fire tender and four fire staff members.

A Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) team, including a person in-charge and three divers, also reached the spot to assist in the rescue operations. Additionally, MCD personnel, along with four sanitation workers, were deployed to help.

However, seven hours after the PCR call was made, the boy remained untraced.

“As of now, the identity of the child or his parents/guardians could not be ascertained. No missing report has been lodged so far. The incident occurred near the Shiv Mandir in Rajokri village, close to the MCD School. The sewer belongs to the MCD and was found open from the side,” said a police officer.
