A 19-year-old man allegedly died by suicide in Faridabad after he was blackmailed with morphed photos and videos of him and his sisters, his family alleged.
Police said the youth had consumed a poisonous substance at his home and died on Sunday morning. Police have filed an FIR for abetment to suicide based on a complaint by his father at Old Faridabad Police Station.
According to the complaint, the victim consumed sulphas, a toxic substance, on October 25. When his health deteriorated, he was taken to a hospital in Sector 19. Police said he passed away the next morning.
The father alleged that before his death, his son admitted that a man had been blackmailing him for two weeks by sending obscene and morphed photos and videos of him and his sisters on WhatsApp. The complaint claimed that the accused demanded money, causing his son significant distress and leading to his decision to end his life.
The son reportedly told his father, “Fed up with this, I consumed a poisonous substance on his instigation”, the complaint alleged.
The victim had also told his father that strict action be taken against the accused, as he left him in a situation where he could not show his face in society and even to his family.
A police officer from the Old Faridabad Police Station told The Indian Express on Monday afternoon, “The accused is currently in the station for questioning, but no (formal) arrest has been made yet. The use of artificial intelligence and the extent of sharing the edited photos and videos will be determined through further investigation.”
The accused has been named in the FIR registered.
