A Delhi court Friday sent Bibhav Kumar, the aide of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, to 14-day judicial custody. Kumar, who was arrested for allegedly assaulting AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, was produced in the court at the end of his police custody.

Two days after he was booked on the charge of assaulting the senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Kumar was arrested by Delhi Police on May 18 while his plea for anticipatory bail was being heard at the Tis Hazari Courts. After his arrest, Kumar was sent to police custody, which was followed by judicial custody, and police custody again.

Earlier, in its remand application, the Delhi Police alleged that a pen drive that was provided to them, which was supposed to contain the CCTV footage from May 13, when the alleged assault on the Parliamentarian took place, was empty. Police also alleged that Kumar had formatted his phone before being arrested.

In her complaint, based on which the Delhi Police registered an FIR against Kumar and arrested him, Maliwal alleged that when she went to the CM’s residence on May 13, Kumar slapped her seven-eight times, kicked her “on the chest, stomach and pelvis area”, and warned her that she would be killed.

Maliwal’s medical report stated that she suffered bruises on her left thigh and right cheek, and below the eye.
