Cracks on floor and a flooded basement at the society
A flooded basement and cracks on the floor sparked a massive concern at a housing society in West Delhi’s Dwarka after an explosion was heard at the parking lot on Sunday, said residents.
Several cars were damaged in the flooding of the basement parking lot at Triveni Heights. “Around 7 pm, residents saw there were massive cracks in the floor and the entire lower basement of the society was flooded,” said BG Mishra, president of RWA at Triveni Heights.

He added that a portion of the basement floor — measuring around 50 sq ft — was displaced.
Manish Gupta, a resident, said, “We are scared because there is no clarity on whether this society is safe or not.”
The DDA, which constructed the society and handed over the flats to residents in 2022, said it responded immediately to the incident, which may have happened due to a combination of accumulated gases and increased groundwater pressure. “A sudden uplift of the lower basement slab in the non-tower area was observed, reportedly due to a combination of accumulated gases and increased groundwater pressure. This resulted in a blast-like sound and water ingress in the basement,” a spokesperson said, adding that the building is structurally safe and has been assessed for stability.
“…dewatering operations are currently underway to manage accumulation and prevent ingress into lift pits or further structural impact… There is no threat to the safety of the residents and the situation is under control.”
“…DDA has consulted with top-tier structural and geotechnical experts to carry out a thorough assessment and provide both urgent remedial measures and a comprehensive long-term solution to address the underlying issue and prevent any recurrence,” the spokesperson said.
