Away from home & each other,Talwars now Dasna’s prisoners No. 9342,9343

At 11.30 pm on Monday,Rajesh and Nupur Talwar may have finally realised that they were far from home,in a place where rules had to be followed.

Until then, several people had asked the couple, kept away from each other,to eat. Both refused, wanting to be left alone. But with patience running thin, jail authorities issued an ultimatum: “Eat,or you will be breaking jail rules and chances of getting out of jail on good conduct will be adversely affected.”

Jail officials said immediately after their medical tests in jail, both Rajesh and Nupur Talwar broke down. “Jail officials tried to calm them down, but they were inconsolable. They refused dinner and were taken to their respective single cells, given to them because of security considerations. After they were told that they would be deemed guilty of breaking rules, they were given roti, rice, mixed vegetables and dal for dinner,” jail superintendent Viresh Raj Sharma said.

All night, both Nupur and Rajesh were kept under close watch. “Neither of them slept for more than an hour. They kept staring into the distance. Officials kept trying to speak to them, but they kept very quiet, especially Nupur,” Sharma said.

Officials said on Tuesday morning,Nupur took ill and had to be treated by doctors. “Around 9 am,Nupur said she wasn’t feeling well. When examined, her blood pressure was found to have shot up to 165 by 105. She was given medication and advised bed rest for three hours. Again, attempts were made to engage her in conversation, but to no avail. She was then put into a police van with her husband and taken to court at 1.30 pm,” Sharma said.

When they returned to jail in the evening,Rajesh and Nupur both underwent medical tests again, but were given the all clear.

In view of their life imprisonment,Rajesh would be allotted barrack number 11,while Nupur would stay in barrack number 13,prisoner number 9342 and 9343,respectively.
