Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will not appear for questioning before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday and will instead go to Madhya Pradesh for a roadshow with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Kejriwal had been summoned in connection with the ED’s probe into the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.

Kejriwal wrote to the central investigating agency on Thursday, calling its summons “illegal and politically motivated”, and said, “The notice has been sent at the instance of the BJP to stop me from campaigning in four election-bound states.”

He also urged the ED to withdraw the summons “immediately”.

The ED summoned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo for questioning in connection with the alleged excise policy scam under which former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh are already in jail.

The Delhi Police had made arrangements for Kejriwal’s appearance at the ED office.

Officials said they have increased deployment around the ED office, Rajghat, and the AAP office.

Kejriwal was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case six months ago, and the AAP earlier expressed its apprehension that Kejriwal would be the first to be arrested as part of the BJP’s alleged plot to target top INDIA alliance leaders ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
