Activist Anna Hazare on Monday appealed to his supporters to court arrest and fill up jails across the country if he is arrested on Tuesday.
Police on Monday denied him and his supporters permission for an indefinite fast at the Jai Prakash Narayan Park starting Tuesday morning. According to police, the protesters had not agreed to all the conditions the police proposed to allow the fast.
Addressing a press conference in the evening,Hazare said he will leave his home at 7.30 am and reach the protest venue at 8,despite the police warning.
I (have) come to understand that I will be refused permission. We will go there. If I am arrested,I will continue my hunger strike in the jail. If I am released,I will go back to the venue and this circle will continue, he said at the conference.
He said if he is arrested, people should fill up the jails across the country. Going to jail for the country is no crime…. It is a decoration, he said.
He also said he and his supporters were not interested in pulling down the government, but during this struggle for change,if it falls,we dont care.
Hazare ended the conference with a call to the public to switch off lights between 8 pm and 9 pm on Monday as a mark of protest against living in the darkness of corruption.
