Amity University in Gurgaon has claimed levels of pollution have gone down on its campus following implementation of the odd-even policy in Delhi.
Scientists at the university’s air quality monitoring facility stated the mass concentration of black carbon showed a drastic reduction on the campus from 15 micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m³) on December 31, 2015, to approximately 7.6 µg/m³ January 5.

In their study, the scientists at the facility, led by Dr P C S Devara, president, Indian Aerosol Science and Technology Association and head of Amity Centre for Environmental Sciences and Health, are also looking at corelation between weather conditions and air quality. The study also claimed that the levels of PM 2.5 and PM 10 over the university campus had gone down considerably.

Prof P B Sharma, vice chancellor, Amity University, said the reduction in pollution was primarily because of less traffic congestion, which also resulted in cutting down on commuting time. For instance, a distance of 70 km from Amity University Gurgaon to Amity University Noida that was earlier covered in more than two hours can now be covered in just over an hour. This directly relates to approximately 30 pert cent reduction in fuel consumption, the university has found.

“This is by no means a small improvement, both from the point of view of commuters and human health, and also from the point view of air quality and fuel economy,” said Sharma.
