Ahead of PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Delhi University on Friday, two students from the varsity alleged police had confined them inside their flat, based on “suspicion”, on Friday — a claim that was denied by the police force.
Abhigyan and Anjali, associated with the DU unit of All India Students’ Association (AISA), claimed they were detained at their Kalyan Nagar flat for three hours. This comes on the heels of posters being put up by AISA across campus which posed questions on the ‘rise in college fees’ and ‘government cutting education funds’.
“At 8 am, we found out that police were looking for us. We were told police would stay with us as they suspected us…,” said Abhigyan. “We will continue to ask questions that matter…,” added Anjali.
DCP (Northwest) Jitendra Kumar Meena denied that the students were detained.
Manik Gupta, president of DU unit of AISA, also wrote to Model Town police station on the issue. DCP Meena said they will look into the letter.
