The accused involved in the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) leak case allegedly used 27 mobile phones, all on pre-paid sim cards that got activated the same day, worked for roughly the same duration of time and were used by the accused around the same location in Behror in Alwar district of Rajasthan.

These sim cards were procured from different locations, including in Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Bihar.

This came to light during the investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Haryana Police probing the leak case. The Haryana Police has busted a gang, including two BDS doctors, a second-year MBBS student and their two accomplices, from whose possession the answer key to the questions asked in the AIPMT exam was allegedly recovered. Police also recovered a number of vests fitted with Bluetooth units allegedly from the accused.

Sources said the Haryana Police has now begun the process of identifying the people on whose name and identity the fake sim cards were procured by the accused.

“We have scrutinised the call details of these 27 sim cards. We are in the process of identifying all those involved in this racket. Investigations so far have revealed that the accused had hired medical exam experts. These people were made to sit in a hotel in Behror, Alwar. One of the students clicked pictures of the question paper and sent it through WhatsApp to the accused. These seven medical experts then answered the questions and transmitted it through WhatsApp to their clients (students who had agreed to pay money; a few had even made part payment). We have got CCTV footage from the hotel and identified these suspects. All of them are at large,” Shrikant Jadhav, Inspector General of Police, Rohtak range, said.

“The accused also took the original documents, including birth certificates, educational qualification certificates and other necessary identity proof of the students. The deal was that if a student scored a good rank, then he/she would pay the agreed sum, which was between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh per student. Once the entire payment was made, then the accused would return the original documents,” another senior police officer associated with the SIT investigation said.

Rohtak police have identified nine students who agreed to pay Rs 15-20 lakh to the accused. They even handed their original documents to the accused. The five accused arrested so far have claimed they had handed over the documents to a person appointed by kingpin Roop Singh Dangi. Dangi is yet to be arrested despite several raids.

According to police, Dahiya and Dangi had allegedly booked four rooms in a resort/hotel in Behror, Alwar. These rooms were used by the accused to solve the question papers of AIPMT. The answer key was transmitted to the students through WhatsApp. Dahiya and Dangi belong to the same village in Meham, Rohtak. -ENS
