On Friday evening, thousands of poor patients who came to seek treatment at the All India Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and their relatives got some respite from the biting cold.
Complying with a Supreme Court order issued this week,AIIMS has kept aside a built-up area of 6,000 sq ft, for being used as a night shelter facility on a temporary basis. According to AIIMS officials, this hall will be able to accommodate about 250 people. The Society for the Promotion of Youth & Masses,an NGO,manage operation and management of the shelter. AIIMS will also construct a large waiting shed within the next three months.
The Supreme Court,on January 9,had directed that shelter facilities be provided to the relatives of patients, who currently are forced to stay on the pavements outside the AIIMS even in the cold.
