‘Acid attack’ planned by my father, poured toilet cleaner on my hands: DU student tells police

Meanwhile, the mother of the two other men, also accused of throwing acid on the student, had earlier registered a case against a relative of the student’s father for allegedly attacking her with acid in 2018 over a property dispute. According to police sources, the woman’s father attempted to involve the three men in a legal battle to avoid being prosecuted in these two cases.

“During the woman’s questioning, she revealed that her brother dropped her near her college. She took an e-rickshaw to travel further, where she met her father, who was waiting for her with a bottle of toilet cleaner,” explained a senior police officer. “The father then poured the acidic liquid on her hands and bag before fleeing on a bike,” he said. The woman then began shouting for help, attracting the attention of passersby, said police.

The veracity of the incident was put into question when the police discovered that none of the three men were near the scene of the crime when the student was allegedly attacked with acid. The main accused was in another area in New Delhi since Sunday morning. This was confirmed based on call detail records, CCTV footage, and statements of witnesses, said police. The motorcycle, which the woman said was used in the attack, was also in the same area throughout the day.
Police said that the other two men accused of throwing acid on her were in Agra, with their mother. The police will now decide whether legal action should be taken against the student too.

“The main accused and the two brothers (other accused) had never met or known each other,” said the senior officer.

On Monday the girl’s father allegedly admitted to having orchestrated the attack on his daughter in order to trap the three men in a legal battle. The police will now decide whether legal action should be taken against the student too. “We will produce her in court…after that, the court’s will decide on what legal route to take,” said the officer.
