A 70-year-old retired Air Force driver was stabbed 25 times, and was left to bleed to death in his house in Masudpur,Vasant Kunj.
Police suspect personal enmity behind the murder of Dharam Singh and have ruled out robbery as motive.
According to police,Singh was killed on Sunday night and his body was found on Monday morning by his niece, when she went to serve him tea. She reportedly found Singh lying in a pool of blood and called other members of the house. The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival, police said.
Police said Singh and his four brothers lived within the same compound with their families.
Police suspect the role of an insider in the murder. The victim was alcoholic and he was not on good terms with his family. Initially, the family was not ready to register a case, but they did so after they were forced to by officials, police said.
Singh has five daughters,of whom four are married, and a son who is also married.
He received his pension and also earned money from renting out two shops in Vasant Kunj area.
Police said robbery could not have been the motive behind the murder as nothing was missing from his house.
