A six-year-old girl and his uncle were killed on Wednesday after their motorcycle was hit by a canter truck from behind in Gurgaon’s Pataudi area, the police said on Thursday. A third person, who was riding pillion, is undergoing treatment at a government hospital.
According to the police, the girl, Sheetal, and her uncle Harish were headed to Bhoda Kala along with Harish’s friend on a motorcycle. Around 7.30 pm, when they were crossing the John Deere tractor agency around the Helmandi flyover, a truck rammed into the two-wheeler from behind and fled the spot.
Passersby took the three injured people to a nearby hospital where two of them were declared dead.
Sheetal’s father Sonu filed a complaint and told the police that her daughter had gone to stay at her uncle’s home in Jhajjar’s Chhara district for a few days.
“My brother-in-law and his friend Anil, both residents of Chhara, were coming to our house to drop Sheetal. Harish was riding the bike and Anil was seated behind while Sheetal was seated in between the two. A canter truck hit their bike from behind and ran away. The driver’s identity is yet to be ascertained,” said Sonu.
He added, “Due to the impact, Harish, Sheetal, and Anil lost consciousness. Anil was thrown off the vehicle due to the impact of the collision. Passersby gathered and rushed them to the government hospital in Pataudi.”
Anil is undergoing treatment at the hospital, the police said.
Harish is survived by two children, aged five and two, and his wife is pregnant with the couple’s third child. His father Pokarmal said they were informed about the incident an hour after it happened. He added that the postmortem would be conducted on Thursday.
An FIR has been registered under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by acting negligently) and 304A (death due to negligence) on Wednesday at the Pataudi police station.
The police said an investigation is underway and they will soon arrest the accused. “Since the canter truck driver fled with the vehicle, he is yet to be identified but we are checking the CCTV footage in the area to ascertain his identity,” an officer said.
