Three police personnel, including two women constables, posted with the Bangladesh Cell of West district have been sent to District Lines for conducting an illegal raid in Okhla’s Joga Bai Extension area of Jamia Nagar last week.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Pushpendra Singh said the officers had conducted a raid without informing their senior officers. A departmental inquiry has also been ordered against them.
“The officers received information that some Bangladeshi nationals were residing illegally in the area. They immediately conducted a raid,” the DCP said.

Meanwhile, residents of the area alleged that such raids weren’t uncommon.
Twenty-three-year-old Ahmed Hasan, a chef who lives in the area and who was present during the raid, said, “They (officers) came in the night and claimed they were the police. One policeman was in civil dress and was inebriated. He used abusive language and harassed me. I hail from Aligarh but he did not pay heed to this, nor did he bother to look at my driver’s licence.”
Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan said, “I received a call last Friday around 2 am from residents who said police were harassing them. I went there and found that officers from the Bangladesh Cell of West district were conducting a raid without informing local police. I immediately sent a letter to police, demanding legal action against the three officers. The incident also occurred when the city was on high alert due to Yakub Memon’s hanging. This is unacceptable.”
Residents also filed a complaint at Jamia Nagar station and demanded that a case be registered against the officers.
