An alleged road rage incident in Madanpur Khadar in Southeast Delhi late Friday night left an 18-year-old youth injured, police said, after a video of the altercation went viral on social media.
Two Police Control Room (PCR) calls were received around 10:26 pm Friday about a quarrel in the D-1 Block area of Madanpur Khadar, according to the police. In one call, the complainant alleged that a knife had been used, while another claimed the assault followed an instance of eve-teasing.
The police and PCR teams which reached the spot found the injured, identified as Somit Kumar, and took him to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where a medico-legal case was prepared.
“Preliminary inquiry revealed that the incident took place when the injured was returning home from the market with his sister. Some boys were standing in the street, and when his sister asked them to make way, an argument ensued, following which the youth was assaulted. No evidence of eve-teasing or use of a knife has been found so far,” Southeast Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Hemant Tiwari said.
The accused have been identified, and efforts are underway to trace them.
Police have registered a case under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intent) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
