The late Captain Vijayakanth’s Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) on Wednesday completed the second round of seat-sharing talks with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

The representatives of DMDK, including V Elangovan, Alagapuram R Mohanraj and P Parthasarathy, met the AIADMK top brass of K P Munusamy, Dindigul C Sreenivasan, P Thangamani, S P Velumani and P Benjamin, and made the alliance official.

Addressing reporters outside the AIADMK headquarters in Chennai, Elangovan said both parties have common views. He noted that a winning alliance would be formed, and they would initiate further talks based on the directions of general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth, the wife of Vijayakanth, who passed away on December 28, 2023.

When asked about the number of seats they demanded from the AIADMK, Elangovan said only two rounds of discussions had been held, and other things will be discussed in the next set of meetings.

In earlier media briefings, Premalatha had noted that they would join an alliance with parties that offer them a respectable number of Lok Sabha seats and a Rajya Seat.

According to sources, the DMDK is likely to be allocated four seats, similar to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The AIADMK said it would address the DMDK’s demand for a Rajya Sabha seat after the Lok Sabha polls. The AIADMK-DMDK combine contested the 2019 polls as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Meanwhile, actor R Sarathkumar’s All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi announced that it would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in alliance with the BJP.
