A day after massive violence broke out near Kallakurichi in Tamil Nadu over the death of a 17-year-old girl, the Madras High Court Monday ordered re-postmortem of the victim and directions to form a special team to arrest all those who vandalised.

Over 50 policemen, including a DIG, were injured in the violence, besides massive damage to the property of a residential school and burning of 15 buses, including three police vans.

Hearing a plea moved by the deceased girl’s father seeking a re-postmortem after suspecting foul play, Justice N Sathish Kumar of the Madras HC questioned the ransacking of the school and burning of transfer certificates of 4,500 during the violence.

“Police were not under the control of anyone. They should enforce the law. This court will monitor the probe,” the judge said.

“Identify all protesters and recover the loss caused by the violence,” the court said in its interim order. The case has been posted for a hearing on July 29.
