Another student found dead in hostel room in Tamil Nadu

Senior police officers, including a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and an Superintendent of police (SP), rushed to the school after the case was reported.

After coming to know about the death, the family and the relatives of the student resorted to a blockade of the Tiruttani-Pothatturpettai road.

A week after the death of a schoolgirl in Kallakurichi in Tamil Nadu, which led to violent protests, a similar death  was reported at a school in Tiruvallur district Monday morning. The body of a 17-year-old girl was found in her hostel room by a member of the school staff, according to the office of the Tiruvallur Police Superintendent.

The girl, who lived in the hostel of a government-aided school in the district, called her parents on Sunday night, according to the police.

“The girl told her friends Monday morning that she would be late to school. After an hour, she hadn’t arrived at school, so staff members went to check her hostel room, where they found her body,” police said.

Senior police officers, including a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and an Superintendent of police (SP), rushed to the school after the case was reported.

The FIR that was filed by the local police was also transferred to the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID), a specialised unit of the state, for a detailed probe. Police transferred the case immediately to CB-CID as per the procedure mandated by the Madras high court order passed after the Kallakurichi regarding deaths of children in schools.
