Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced on Thursday that women in the state will start receiving Rs 2,100 per month from September 25 under a new welfare scheme–Lado Lakshmi Yojana. The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Saini. A fund of Rs 5,000 crore had already been approved for this in the previous budget.
* Unmarried and married women aged 23 and above will be eligible for this benefit starting September 25.
* Initially, the scheme will cover women from families with an annual income of less than Rs 1 lakh.
* Up to three women in a single household can receive the benefit; there is no restriction on the number of beneficiaries per family.
* Women already receiving pensions from existing schemes will not be eligible under this scheme.
* However, women suffering from serious illnesses will be eligible for benefits under both this scheme and their current pension schemes.
* Women suffering from stage 3 and 4 cancer, any of the 54 listed rare diseases, haemophilia, thalassemia, or sickle cell anaemia will receive additional benefits under this scheme.
* Unmarried women or the husbands of married women must be residents of Haryana for the past 15 years to qualify.
* When an unmarried beneficiary turns 45, she will automatically become eligible for the Widow and Destitute Women Financial Aid Scheme.
* At age 60, she will automatically qualify for the Old Age Honor Pension Scheme.
* The CM estimated that about 19-20 lakh women will benefit in the first phase.
* The official notification for the scheme and a mobile app for applications will be launched within a week.
* Eligible women will receive SMS notifications prompting them to apply via the app.
* Lists of eligible women will be published in every panchayat and ward, allowing local communities to raise objections if needed.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini emphasised that women will play a crucial role in a developed India, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He highlighted that the central government, under PM Modi, is continuously launching welfare schemes for the empowerment of women.
Saying that his party manifesto is “like the Gita”, Saini said, “The government treats its election manifesto as sacred as the Bhagavad Gita, and is committed to fulfilling every promise made to the people. Unlike Opposition parties, who forget their manifestos once in power, the BJP is continuously working on them.”
