Heavy security arrangements have been made at all the locations to avoid any untoward incident. Fire tenders have been stationed at all these locations and police force has been deployed to manage crowds.
Panchkula’s tallest
Panchkula will witness the tallest Ravana effigy in the Tricity at 180 feet. This is said to be the country’s second tallest effigy made at a cost of Rs 25 lakh. The Ravana effigy has become an attraction for the last many days. It even fell two days ago and was again installed by the workers.
The tallest effigy — 211 feet — in the country is said to be displayed in Delhi’s Dwarka.
Tejinder Chauhan, who has been making tallest effigies in the region, has yet again made this effigy at Sector 5 Shalimar ground. Chauhan has been making these effigies since 1987. This time, tight security arrangements have been put in place to avoid any untoward incident.
From the shoes to bamboos to iron rods to cloth and eco-friendly crackers, this time special focus has been laid on the Ravana’s colour combinations too.

Organisers said that eco-friendly crackers have been used in the effigy and the same shall be set ablaze with a remote control.

Chandigarh’s tallest
Chandigarh will be seeing its tallest Ravana effigy, about 101 feet, in Sector 46. The effigies of Meghnad and Kumbhkaran are both 90 feet tall.
The organisers have spent around 6 lakh on the event.
At Sector 17 Parade Ground, the effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhkaran are 70 feet, 65 feet, 65 feet tall, respectively. These have been made at a cost of Rs 10 lakh.
UT Adviser Rajeev Verma will be the chief guest on the occasion in Sector 17.

Though around 3,000 chairs have been made available, over a lakh people are expected to attend the event. Every year, over a lakh people attend the Sector 17 event.
An event shall be held before the effigies are set ablaze. Other than this, main Dussehra events will also be held at Sector 34 ground, Sector 28 ground and various other locations.
Mohali effigy
Mohali’s main Dussehra event will be celebrated at Phase VIII where an effigy of 72-ft-tall Ravana has been installed. Along with the same, effigies of Kumbhkaran and Meghnad — 70-ft high — have also been pitched. The effigies have been made at a cost of Rs 11 lakh.
This time, the Dussehra committee in Mohali will also present a small event to mark the completion of 50 years of production of Swaraj Tractors at the local production unit, the organisers said.

Other than this, small events at other locations are being held.
