U-12 national champion Prinkle moves into quarterfinals

It has been a month since Prinkle Singh left a lasting impression during the 7th Ramesh Desai Memorial All India Ranking National Championship held in Mumbai in the last week of May.

It has been a month since Prinkle Singh left a lasting impression during the 7th Ramesh Desai Memorial All India Ranking National Championship held in Mumbai in the last week of May. Playing with confidence,the CLTA trainee not only won u-12 singles title but also lifted the doubles crown also to make it an unforgettable tournament. High on confidence,Prinkle once again returned on the court,this time at CLTA,where she learnt the basics of the game,and made it to the quarter-finals of the girls’ u-14 category in the CLTA-AITA Talent Series Tennis Tournament played at the CLTA Stadium in Sector 10 on Tuesday. She thrashed Saisha Khanna 9-0 to record a bagel.

Her elder brother,Sumitpal Singh,did not make it to the main draw in the singles section but he made his presence felt in the doubles u-18 category. He paired with Qamar Faisal and together they defeated Mritunjay Badola and Raghav Singhania 4-2,5-4 (5) in a tough encounter to enter the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile,CHART trainee Ranjeet Singh,seeded second,overcame a spirited Raghav 9-6 in the u-18 category,to secure quarterfinals berth. However,top seed Hardeep Singh Sandhu had an easy outing as he blanked Arnav Alok Goel 9-0. Paramveer Bajwa,the qualifier,got the better of Lavish Nehra 9-8 (3) in a tough pre-quarterfinals encounter.

In the girls’ section,Gayatri Kumariah,the second seed who trains at CLTA,also secured her berth in the quarterfinals after defeating Simarjeet Kaur 9-5. Top seed Rajbeer Kaur looked in smashing form as she lost just one game in her 9-1 win over Charvi Saxena. In the boys’ u-14 category,Sabrang Sandal played with confidence and without losing a single game,thrashed Jaskaran Riar 9-0. Top seed Sagar Bains was given a tough fight by Navneet Singh but eventually ended up on the losing side 7-9.
