Sukhbir Badal announces compensation from MPLAD to rebuild houses

Badal sought relief for all those whose houses and kinnow orchards have been destroyed, and said his party would launch an agitation to ensure justice to affected farmers if this was not done in 15 days.

SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal Saturday announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh from his MPLAD (Members of Parliament Local Area Development) fund for the repair of houses damaged by the tornado at Bukainwala village in Fazilka .

Sukhbir, who visited the village to assess the damage, also committed Rs one lakh in his personal capacity for immediate relief work.

He sought relief for all those whose houses and kinnow orchards have been destroyed, and said his party would launch an agitation to ensure justice to affected farmers if this was not done in 15 days.

He spoke to Fazilka deputy commissioner and offered to release money from his MPLAD fund if required. Badal also took on CM Bhagwant Mann for not visiting the affected area and releasing compensation to the tornado-hit immediately.

Earlier, he toured various villages in Lambi constituency where standing wheat crop has been damaged due to hailstorm and heavy rain. Sukhbir demanded that Rs 50,000 per acre be released as compensation to farmers whose wheat crop has been destroyed.
