The Punjab Government on Sunday announced the extension of holidays for all schools till September 3 due to rain and flooding, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast heavy to very heavy rain for the three days beginning Monday, September 1.

Education Minister Harjot Bains announced on X, “As per the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Singh Mann, keeping in view the flood situation in Punjab, all government/aided/recognized and private schools of the state will be closed till 3rd September 2025.”

“Parents and students are requested to prioritize safety and follow the instructions given by the administration,” the education minister wrote further.

In another post on X, Bains warned private schools that if they won’t close the schools for both students and teachers, strict action will follow.

“The Punjab government has declared school holidays keeping in mind the safety of students and teachers in the wake of the floods. Despite the holidays, complaints are being received from various places that some private schools are calling their teachers to schools at their own discretion,” he wrote.

“In this regard, clear directions have been issued to the officials. Now, if any such complaint is received in any district, appropriate action will be taken by the concerned district administration,” he added.

Earlier, on August 26, the Government announced closure of all schools, both government-run and private, in Punjab from August 27 to 30 due to heavy rain and flooding.
