Two police personnel from Chandigarh were booked and one of them arrested along with four others for liquor smuggling near Narnaul district in Haryana on Tuesday night. At least 265 cartons of the Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) were recovered from them.
The policemen were identified as Constable Anil Kumar and Ravinder Singh. Kumar is posted in Sector 26 police station and Singh with the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn).
Sources said that Kumar managed to escape from the National Highway-152, where Haryana police had laid a police naka. The arrested were identified as Prince, Soni, Annu and Singh.
They are all from Bhiwani, Haryana. Police said that the liquor cartons were being taken in a truck from Punjab to Gujarat and vehicles, Scorpio and an i10 were escorting them. Kumar and Singh were sitting in each escort vehicle and their uniforms were recovered from them. They were arrested by a team under the supervision of Inspector Ravinder Kumar, SHO PS Narnaul (city).
A case was registered at PS Narnol (city) for liquor smuggling, forgery, cheating and criminal conspiracy. Haryana police have informed Chandigarh police about the arrests.
