Mohali police nabs key accused in multi-crore land fraud

Forged papers to sell retired Colonel’s 10-acre Tangauri property; accomplices still at large

The Mohali police has arrested a man accused of cheating innocent landowners of crores of rupees through forged property documents, officials said on Wednesday.

DSP (City-II) Harsimran Singh Bal identified the accused as Balwant Singh, a resident of Bhador, Barnala. “He, along with his accomplices, prepared fake Aadhaar and PAN cards in the names of property owners, created forged land documents and sold their land,” DSP Bal stated.

The arrest was made by a police team, led by Inspector Satwinder Singh, SHO of IT City police station, in connection with an FIR registered on September 9 under sections 316(2), 318(4), 336(2), 338, 336(3), 340(2), 339, and 61(2) of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita).

DSP Bal said the investigation revealed that Balwant and his associates allegedly sold 10 acres of land in Tangauri village belonging to retired Colonel N J S Pannu using forged ownership papers. Colonel Pannu subsequently filed a formal complaint, leading to the registration of the case.

“Preliminary investigation shows Balwant Singh has been involved in multiple fraud cases earlier as well,” DSP Bal confirmed. Police are now tracking down his accomplices who remain absconding.
Balwant was produced before the court while the investigation into the multi-crore property scam continues.
