A day after a 12-year-old girl from Nagpur, Maharashtra, suffered serious injuries in a zipline accident in Manali, Himachal Pradesh Minister for Youth Services and Sports Yadvinder Goma said Monday that the department has taken cognisance of the matter.

The victim, identified as Trisha, reportedly fell from a height of at least 30 feet onto the rocky banks of the Beas River after the harness rope of the zipline snapped mid-air.

She suffered fractures in her hips. Interacting with media at his office, Goma said, “Preliminary probe conducted by his department confirmed that the zipline operator was functioning illegally and that no prior permission was granted. Appropriate action has been directed against those responsible. Although the primary authority for granting permission for zipline activities lies with the tourism department, technical approval is required from the Mountaineering Institute. In this case, no permission was obtained. It was completely illegal.”

The incident, which occurred on June 8, came to public attention only on Sunday after a video of the accident went viral on social media. The girl along with her parents had come to Manali on summer vacation.
