Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria cleared the name of Major General (Retd) Vinayak Saini as the next chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC). Major General Saini will be taking the oath of office and secrecy at Punjab Raj Bhawan Wednesday.
He will succeed former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Jatinder Singh Aulakh, who retired from the post in January this year. The post has been lying vacant since then.
According to sources, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government in Punjab has been looking for a retired defence personnel for the coveted post all these months.
Sources said that Major General Saini was earlier preoccupied with personal issues. “He has given his clearance to join now. Hence, the government will be appointing him formally on Wednesday,” a source said.
Commissioned in the Corps of Engineers in December 1987, Major General Saini belongs to Hoshiarpur, and lives in Mohali. He retired from the Indian Army in October last year.
He was in the news last year after he moved the Delhi High Court against the Army for denying him promotion as Lt General in August last year. However, he retired as a Major General.
