To celebrate the ideas and values of the celebrated writer, litterateur and journalist, the 13th edition of the Khushwant Singh Litfest (KSLF) is scheduled from October 18 to 20.
This year, the theme of the litfest (literature festival) is, ‘Resilience and Renewal’, which resonates deeply with the times we live in. “The last few years, as we all know, have been a tribute to the enduring human spirit, its ability to adapt, overcome and flourish among challenges,” Rahul Singh, director of the KSLF and son of the late author, said, referring to the conflicts and wars that the world is facing.
The KSLF is a celebration of literature with a niche for Punjab and Punjabi ethos to pay tribute to the values and vision of writer Khushwant Singh. Like every year, this time too, the festival promises a remarkable gathering of literary minds, cultural voices, and thought leaders.
The galaxy of speakers taking part in the litfest include William Dalrymple, Imtiaz Ali, Arundhathi Subramaniam (prominent poet), L Subramaniam (acclaimed violinist and composer, Amitabh Kant (former CEO of the NITI Aayog), Anindya Roy, Devdutt Pattanaik (mythologist), and Manish Tiwari (Chandigarh MP).
“Even in the worst of times, I look for hope, so the theme of the festival is resilience and renewal. Wars. The military has always been an integral theme of KSLF, as it is devoted to the Indian soldier, along with ecology, and education, especially for girls. Only education can increase women in the workforce. We hope KSLF can promote the values of secularism, closer ties between communities, and unity in diversity,” Rahul added.
The KSLF began 13 years ago in the tiny hill station of Kasauli, where the celebrated author had spent considerable time, articulating his ideas and vision. It is a not-for-profit organisation and earnings from the festival are ploughed back into the preservation of Kasauli and its environs, as well as the education of the girl child.
