Various farm unions on Sunday took out a rally in Mohali in support of suspended CISF woman constable Kulwinder Kaur who was accused of slapping Mandi MP-elect and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut. Kaur allegedly slapped the actress while the latter was going to board a flight to Delhi from Mohali International Airport on June 6.

The protesting farmers gathered at Gurdwara Shri Amb Sahib in Phase VIII and marched towards the district administrative complex in Mohali’s Sector-76.

The protesters claimed a male member of Ranaut’s team was seen hitting a woman colleague in a video of a scuffle following the alleged slap incident, and that a case should be registered against the person. They also demanded action against Ranaut for her remarks after the incident. Ranaut had purportedly claimed that the slapping episode proved that terrorism was on the rise in Punjab.

After the June 6 incident, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) suspended Kaur from service. The Mohali police have also booked her for assault and wrongful restraint. Kaur joined the investigation on Saturday and was let off after questioning.
