Jaskirat Mehra’s 4 for 20 propels Capital Strikers to 23-run win over Dr Morepen Dazzlers

A four-wicket haul by Jaskirat Singh Mehra (4 for 20) Thursday propelled Capital Strikers to a 23-run win over Dr Morepen Dazzlers in a match on the opening day of the Dr Morepen’s Chandigarh Premier League being organised by UTCA at Sector 16 Stadium.

Due to overnight rain and wet outfield, the matches were reduced in overs in the T20 tournament on the opening day. Batting first in the second match of the day, Strikers posted a total of 119 runs in 15.5 overs. Opener Arjun Azad played a knock of 42 runs off 26 balls while skipper Raj Anand Bawa played a knock of 25 runs. Azad smashed four boundaries and two sixes during his knock. For Dazzlers, Sunny Singh claimed four wickets for 22 runs while Nikhil Kumar claimed three wickets for 29 runs.

Chasing the target, Dazzlers could manage a total of 98 for 8 in the allotted 16 overs. Dazzlers lost their first five wickets for 25 runs as Dazzlers bowlers, led by Mehra, picked wickets at regular intervals. Bhagmendar Lather played a valiant knock of 50 runs off 31 balls for Dazzlers before the team managed a total of 96 for 8 in the allotted 16 overs and suffering a 23-run loss. For Strikers, Jaskirat Singh Mehra was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed four wickets for 20 runs. Sahil Kumar claimed two wickets for 15 runs.

Earlier in the day, Chandigarh Kings scored an 18-run win over Altruistrians. Batting first, Kings posted a total of 158 for 4 in the allotted 15 overs. Nikhil Thakur played an unbeaten knock of 61 runs off 33 balls. Thakur smashed five boundaries and four sixes during his stay at the crease. Captain Shivam Bhambhri played a knock of 38 runs off 27 balls while Raman Bishnoi played a quickfire innings of 28 runs in nine balls. For Altruistrians, Harshit Singh claimed one wicket for eight runs while Paras Kumar claimed one wicket for 21 runs.

Chasing the target, Altruistrians could manage a total of 140 for 6 in the allotted 15 overs. Gaurav Puri was the top scorer for the team with a knock of 49 runs off 26 balls. For the winning team, Nishunk Birla claimed two wickets for 15 runs while Neel Dhaliwal grabbed two wickets for 28 runs. Armaan Jhakar claimed two wickets for 40 runs.
