Family unhappy over ‘lack of help’ from Centre

Nitin Garg, who was murdered recently in Melbourne, was cremated in his home town on Sunday morning. Nitin’s body was brought home from Delhi airport at about 4 am by his uncle Ashok Kumar and local Congress leader Pritam Singh Akhara. The cremation took place around 11 am.

Parveen Garg,Nitin’s mother, who has been in a state of shock since the news of her son’s death broke out,was inconsolable today and held the photograph of her late son in his college convocation dress close to her heart.

At the cremation,Tim Huggins,First Secretary,Australian High Commission,New Delhi,in a tribute to Nitin assured that the Australian government is working towards nabbing the killers of Nitin. He laid a wreath on Nitin’s body on behalf of the Australian government.

Ruing state government and district administrations’ apathy,Varinder Kumar, the deceased’s uncle, said,”We did not get any support from the government for bringing Nitin’s body back home. The district officials who had come to our home after the news of Nitin’s death broke out,did not extend any support after that.”

Kumar added,”Worse still,we have no information on whether the Indian government is taking any steps to ensure Nitin’s killers are being brought to book or not. But if the Australian Government ensures the safety of other Indian students studying in the country,we will at least feel that our son lost his life to a good cause.”

Meanwhile,Hira Singh Gabria,Jails and Tourism Minister, and Paramjit Singh Sidhwan,Political Secretary to Deputy Chief Minister, also laid a wreath on the body of Nitin on behalf of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy Sukhbir Badal.
