The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday permitted Diljit Dosanjh’s show in Chandigarh but directed that the event’s sound levels must not exceed 75 decibels at its periphery. A detailed order is awaited in the case.
The division bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Anil Kshetarpal clarified that the event could proceed as per permissions granted by the Chandigarh Administration, provided noise pollution norms are strictly followed. The bench observed that any breach of the 75-decibel limit would attract penal action by the authorities.
Senior Advocate Akshay Bhan, representing the organisers, informed the court that the event would be held from 7 PM to 10 PM and assured that liquor would not be served to anyone under 25.
UT Senior Standing Counsel Amit Jhanji apprised the court of extensive security arrangements, including the deployment of around 2,000 police personnel, traffic marshals, and five fire tenders, to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
The court also directed the Chandigarh Administration to submit a status report on the event by December 18, the next hearing date.
The petition, filed by Chandigarh resident Ranjeet Singh through counsel Davinder Singh, cited disruptions caused by a December 7 concert at the same venue featuring artist Karan Aujla. The petitioner expressed concerns over recurring events at the Sector 34 exhibition ground, which lies near Sector 32, a hub for medical and emergency services.
The bench was also informed about an upcoming concert by AP Dhillon, scheduled for December 21 at the same venue, and stated that it would address the matter during the December 18 hearing.
