Police post in-charge arrested while taking bribe of Rs 10,000

As per details, the in-charge of the police post, sub-inspector Samarpeet, had allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 from Baldevnagar resident Sumeet, against whom a case under Section 120 of the Excise Act had been registered.

The Haryana Vigilance Department on Monday nabbed the in-charge of Baldevnagar police post red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

As per details, the in-charge of the police post, sub-inspector Samarpeet, had allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 from Baldevnagar resident Sumeet, against whom a case under Section 120 of the Excise Act had been registered.

Investigators said that Samarpreet had demanded the bribe though a middleman, Aneet kumar, for removing Sumeet’s name from the case. Sumeet later pled helplessness in paying Rs 20,000, after which the amount was negotiated down to Rs 10,000.

In the meanwhile, Sumeet approached Haryana’s Vigilance Department with a complaint regarding Samarpreet asking for a bribe. The department formed a team and sent Sumeet with the bribe amount to meet Samarpreet, as the department laid a trap. The police post in-charge was subsequently nabbed as he was accepting the bribe from Sumeet.

As per setails, the vigiance team later took The Vigilance team took the accused sub-inspector to its state headquarters in Sector 10, Ambala City, for interrogation. The vigilance authorities later issued an appeal to people to come forward and report anyone indulging in corruption or asking for a bribe, while promising that the identity of anyone filing a complaint would be kept a secret.
