The Haryana Police have launched a new initiative to send the status updates of First Information Reports (FIRs) in Hindi to the registered mobile numbers of the complainants via SMS. The messages contain a link to download the FIRs, said Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal on Thursday.
Kaushal was speaking with mediapersons after chairing a meeting of the State Apex Committee for the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) in Chandigarh. The CCTNS Haryana project aims to enhance citizen-friendliness, promote transparency in police operations and improve the delivery of citizen-centric services through the effective use of information and communication technology (ICT).
Kaushal said, “The internet bandwidth at a total of 277 police stations in Haryana has been upgraded which shows the commitment of the Haryana Police to improve connectivity. I also urged the officers to expedite the work of SWAN (State Wide Area Network) connectivity, which will provide 10 Mbps bandwidth to the 47 newly-established police stations, including the Cyber Crime Prevention and Support Scheme, across the state,” Kaushal said.
A government spokesperson said, “Integration of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) with the CCTNS has been successfully accomplished. This integration enables citizens to request the blocking or unblocking of devices online. Additionally, the CCTNS has achieved successful integration with various other departments, such as health, jails, prisons, forensic science laboratory, prosecution and courts, through the Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS). This achievement promotes seamless information sharing and collaboration among these departments, further strengthening the criminal justice system.”
The state police have also continued to maintain its first rank in the Pragati Dashboard, a monthly assessment conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Crime Records Bureau for all states and union territories, Kaushal said.
