Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday visited rain-affected regions in Fatehabad district to assess the situation, while former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda visited flood-hit areas in Rohtak district.
Saini visited Baliala Head, Koodni Head and Chandpura Siphon, among others, where waterlogging has severely impacted local communities. Hooda, however, visited flood-hit areas under the Meham and Kalanaur Assembly constituencies, driving a tractor alongside farmers.
Reiterating his government’s support during this crisis, Saini said, “The state government is committed to compensating farmers for their losses. To facilitate this, the e-Kshatipurti portal has been launched, allowing farmers to report crop damage. As of now, crop loss across nearly 1.70 lakh acres has been registered on the portal. Compensation will soon be disbursed.”
In addition to addressing local concerns, Saini highlighted Haryana’s efforts to aid neighbouring states. “Over 80 trucks carrying relief materials have been dispatched to flood-affected regions in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, with 25 more being sent on Sunday — 10 to Himachal and 15 to Punjab,” the CM said.
Speaking to journalists in Rohtak, Hooda criticised the BJP-led state government for its handling of the situation, calling the flood and waterlogging crisis a result of “administrative failure”.
Hooda called for immediate financial assistance without bureaucratic hurdles, demanding direct compensation to farmers whose crops were devastated. He said farmers should receive at least Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000 per acre, given the scale of destruction and the bleak prospects for the next harvest.
The former CM expressed his resentment over the reliance on digital platforms like the e-Kshatipurti portal, arguing, “It delays aid and excludes many affected individuals.”
Hooda said, “90 per cent of disaster victims are left uncompensated under the current system, and even those who receive help face long waits.”
