Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini visited Mohali’s Fortis Hospital Monday to meet his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann, who has been admitted there since September 5. Mann was hospitalised following complaints of exhaustion, low heart rate, and fluctuating blood pressure, after several days of viral fever and digestive troubles amid flood relief tasks.
During the visit, Saini inquired about Mann’s health and wished a speedy recovery. The two leaders held a conversation for approximately 20 minutes, focusing on several issues, including the floods in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
“In a gesture of solidarity, Chief Minister Nayab Sigh Saini affirmed that Haryana stands with Punjab in the situation arising because of the floods. He assured the Punjab chief minister of all possible assistance, emphasising that the Haryana government and every resident stand united with Punjab in this critical time,” a Haryana government official said. Saini concluded his visit by wishing Punjab a swift recovery from the floods and for Mann’s quick return to health, the official added.
A Punjab Cabinet meeting that was scheduled to be chaired by Mann Friday was postponed after he was hospitalised. This meeting was expected to address the relief and rescue operations in the state in the wake of the floods.
After the news of Mann’s illness emerged, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal visited him at his official residence Thursday to check on his health. Kejriwal arrived in Punjab Wednesday evening to assess the flood situation and was initially scheduled to visit the affected areas alongside Mann. In Mann’s absence, Kejriwal proceeded to visit flood-hit areas in Kapurthala district.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Punjab Tuesday. His tour is primarily aimed at reviewing the flood crisis. PM Modi will conduct an aerial survey of affected areas and meet with flood victims, farmers, and state officials.
