Another Haryana Civil Services (HCS) officer is all set to return to his parent state as the Chandigarh administration has relieved Municipal Corporation Secretary Shambhu on Wednesday afternoon following a request from him.
“I am being repatriated on my own request. I had withdrawn my consent in February 2024 on the completion of one year of term and requested not to extend it further,” Shambhu told The Indian Express.
Shambhu also clarified that he had relinquished his charge. Asked why he wanted to return to Haryana, he cited “personal family reasons”.
Usually HCS and Punjab Civil Service (PCS) officers stay for a minimum of two-three years and some even get their tenures extended beyond five years.
An order issued by the Union Territory administration said, “The Administrator is pleased to relieve Shambhu, HCS, from Chandigarh administration to enable him to join his state of Haryana.”
Only a few days ago did the administration repatriate HCS officer Sanyam Garg all of a sudden. He had completed barely two years as subdivisional magistrate (central) while also holding the charge of assistant estate officer. He joined the administration on deputation in August 2022. It was in May 2022 that Haryana sent a panel of HCS officers including Garg to the administration.
Meanwhile, HCS officer Shashi Vasundhra has been given the charge of the joint commissioner of the municipal corporation.
Frequent repatriations
In April, the administration repatriated PCS officer Jagdeep Saigal, hardly six months after he started his stint in Chandigarh. He had come to the Union Territory after his selection from a panel sent by the Punjab government to Chandigarh.
In November last year, HCS officer Alok Passi was repatriated within 10 months of his joining as the additional excise and taxation commissioner.
