With the sting of dengue and other vector-borne diseases rearing their heads again, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has issued a stern warning to owners of all vacant plots under its jurisdiction — ensure cleanliness on your premises or face action.
The move by GMADA follows a warning sounded out by the Mohali district administration, which had highlighted how vacant, unclean plots in the district had become a breeding ground for mosquitos and could potentially aid in the spread of diseases like dengue and malaria.
On Thursday, a GMADA official said that it had been brought to the attention by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) that various sectors/projects/urban estates under their jurisdiction had been affected due to lack of cleanliness of vacant plots, giving rise to the constant fear of spread of malaria/dengue and other diseases in the area.
The GMADA official said that they have decided to launch a crackdown based on the complaints that they receive and if any disease spreads due to lack of cleanliness in a vacant plot, then the respective owner will be held responsible and appropriate legal action will be initiated against them.
Mohali has seen a rapid surge in number of dengue cases this month.
As per details, a total of 110 cases of dengue have been reported so far this year from Mohali, of which 65 were reported in the month of August only.
Of the 110 cases reported so far this year from the district, 85 were from urban areas like Mohali city, Kharar and Zirakpur. Data showed that Kharar was the worst-hit by the disease so far having reported 41 cases so far, followed by Mohali city which has reported 25 cases.
