Among the 12 people who were found dead due to suspected carbon monoxide poisoning at a restaurant in Georgia, 11 were Indian nationals.
In a press release Monday, the Embassy of India in Tbilisi said 11 Indian nationals died in Gudauri, Georgia. The bodies were discovered on the second floor of a building housing an Indian food restaurant at a ski resort, according to reports.
However, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Congress MP from Amritsar, said the 12 people who died in Georgia were all from Punjab. “12 Punjabi’s have tragically died from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning at ski resort in Gudauri, Georgia. I urge CM @BhagwantMann & @KuldeepSinghAAP NRI Minister to take immediate steps to bring back bodies & support grieving families,” Aujla said in a post on X Monday.
The Indian Embassy in Tbilisi extended its condolences to the families of those who died. “The Embassy is working closely with local authorities to facilitate the prompt repatriation of the mortal remains to India. We are also in contact with the bereaved families and are committed to providing all possible support,” it said in the press release.
However, on December 14, the Indian Embassy said the 12 victims were Indians.
