Garbage dump is piling up in the Industrial Area and giving a tough time to residents living in the vicinity.

The garbage is now littered along the roads and the choe crossing from the Industrial Area and the Municipal Corporation (MC) failed to keep a check on it.

Recently, the MC had opened the financial bid for mechanical sweeping on November 8. The contract of mechanical sweeping had ended in February last year, rendering the MC to manual sweeping. The MC will hire a company for cleaning of the A and B category roads.

Rajwant Rai Sharma, a resident of Sector 91 who took up the issue of garbage dump, told The Indian Express that they have been listening for the past six months that the sweeping work will be started but it is being delayed due to unknown reasons. He added that garbage is being piled up along the roads and the garbage is being dumped into the choe near the Industrial Area but the MC had turned a blind eye to this.

“You can see the MC workers come in the morning to empty their tankers of sewerage water into the choe exposing the residents to various health risks,” Sharma added. Ashok Kumar Jha, a former BJP councillor, said that the city had not seen such worst kind of situation as far as sweeping was concerned.

Advocate Ranjodh Singh Sarao, a resident of Sector 70, said that the MC seemed to have exhausted its resources to collect the garbage due to which garbage can be seen littered along the roads. He added that people are forced to suffer due to the delays in the work. He added that there should be an inquiry into the delay of awarding tenders for the work. Deputy Mayor Kuljeet Singh Bedi said they are expecting that the MC will soon award the work.
