Engineers, postgrads among newly recruited bus drivers in Chandigarh

Among the 97 newly recruited bus drivers for the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) are those with an MTech and postgraduate degrees, according to official documents accessed by The Indian Express.

According to official documents, Amit Kumar, a resident of Sector 28C, Chandigarh, holds an MTech degree in Mechanical Engineering. Similarly, Sanjay Kumar and Toofan Malik have a B Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering, while Ravinder Kumar has a B.Tech in Electronics.

While Sanjay Kumar is a resident of Nahar, Toofan Malik and Ravinder Kumar are residents of Jind and Bhiwani. Two other drivers, Vikas and Pawan Kumar, are post-graduates in Humanities.

Nitesh, another newly recruited bus driver, a resident of Hisar, and Kamal, a resident of Ateli, hold a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce. Mahesh and Naveen Kumar Rathee have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Application (BCA). Deepak, a resident of Bahadurgarh, has a BSc degree.

As far as qualification is concerned, a Matric certificate is required. Also, the job holder must have a heavy transport/motor vehicle licence. The basic pay for the job ranges between Rs 5,910 and Rs 20,200.

In addition to a written test, a driving test and a medical examination were also conducted.

On Thursday, UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria handed over appointment letters to the 97 newly appointed bus drivers of CTU.

In his address, Kataria congratulated all the newly appointed drivers, saying that this appointment is not just a job, but a proud responsibility to serve society and the public.

“A bus driver is not just a driver, but a guardian of the city’s speed, passenger safety, and punctuality. The journey of every student, every worker, and every family can be safe and enjoyable only if the driver performs his or her duties with utmost devotion and dedication,” he said.
