Putting an end to speculations of a BJP alliance with the Akali Dal, the saffron party in it’s state executive committee meeting on Sunday announced to contest all 13 Lok Sabha seats in 2024 on its own.

While holding a meeting in Sangrur after a gap of 30 years, the state BJP leadership also said that a month-long campaign will be started from May 30 to highlight the achievements of nine years of the NDA government. The party also passed a resolution praising the 9 years of the Modi government.

During the meeting, chaired by BJP state president Ashwani Sharma, the executive committee also analysed the party’s performance in the recently concluded Jalandhar bypoll.

Sharma announced, “The BJP will be contesting on all the 13 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on its own and no one should believe on the rumours of alliance with any party. Punjab is a sensitive state and the voters need BJP for the harmonious growth of the state. We are already reaching out to the masses and will be further reaching out with the policies of BJP for the people.”

Parveen Bansal, senior vice president of Punjab BJP, said, “BJP didn’t win the seat, however, if we compare our performance in the nine Vidhan Sabha seats falling under the Jalandhar parliamentary constituency with the 2022 Vidhan Sabha polls, BJP’s vote bank increased by 4.2%. Moreover, this was just a bypoll and when the 2024 Lok Sabha polls will come, the equations will further be different.”

The BJP was contesting on its own for the first time as in 2019 it was in alliance with the Akali Dal. The party managed to get 15.2% vote share apart from getting lead in Jalandhar Central and Jalandhar North Vidhan Sabha constituencies.

Randeep Singh Deol, Sangrur district president of BJP, said, “Last time, the party’s state executive committee meeting was held in 1993 in Sangrur and later from 1998-2020 the party was in alliance with Akali Dal. This state executive meeting in Sangrur is very important as the Malwa region, including Sangrur, was a hot bed of protest during the agitation against the three farm law. It is also important as the party is spreading its wings in rural as well as urban areas equally.”

The BJP cadre will also be distributing booklets , pamphlets printed in Punjabi language among the masses.
