The Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned the wife and brother of Akali Dal MLA Avinash Chander in connection with an alleged synthetic drug racket case. Chander’s wife Santosh Klare and brother Stephen Klare have been ordered to appear at the ED office on April 8. The agency had earlier grilled Chander, who is also a Chief Parliamentary Secretary, for 11 hours in the case.
Santosh, the ED learnt, has many prime properties in her name worth several crores in Kartarpur, Jalandhar, and Phillaur, which is her husband’s constituency.

“ED will ask her for her source of income and how she got the properties,” said an ED source adding that Chander may be summoned again soon.
Though there was no case registered against Chander and his wife, they were summoned on the basis of a diary kept by Goraya-based businessman Chuni Lal Gaba, who is currently in jail in connection with the same case. The diary, reportedly, had transactions against the names of various politicians. But later, many of these names were found “written off” in other pages. Till date, the ED has booked more than two dozen accused in this case and summoned several people.
