Demanding that the devastating floods which ravaged two states and a Union Territory in northern India be declared a “national calamity”, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Tuesday questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not visited the flood-hit areas to assess the situation.
Warring said the Punjab government “completely failed” in providing relief and rehabilitation to the flood-hit people.
Warring also challenged the silence and absence of Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal and leader Manish Sisodia in Punjab at a time when the state has been ravaged by devastating floods.
“Shouldn’t PM Modi visit Punjab’s flood-hit areas?” he posted on X. “Since he is back from the SCO summit, we hope that he visits flood-affected areas in Punjab and announces an immediate flood relief package for the state.”
The PCC chief said the extent of the devastation caused by floods calls for declaring floods as a “national calamity”. “Not just Punjab, but parts of Himachal and J&K have been massively hit by floods.”
Taking a dig at AAP leaders, Warring asked the party leadership, “Where are Shri Arvind Kejriwal Ji and Shri Manish Sisodia Ji? Last we heard from Sisodia Ji was ‘saam daam, dand bed, sach jhoot, ladai jagda…’ to win Punjab.”
“Whether Punjab was only for winning elections to fill the AAP’s coffers for fighting elections across India and splurging Punjab’s money on publicity campaigns in remote states,” he questioned.
