NIIFT-Mohali goes national with NIFT-Delhi taking it under its wing

It’s finally happened. The Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT),Mohali will no longer be known as that. Theres been a change and its more than just the name thats anew. Now under the wings of the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT),Delhi,NIIFT Mohali will be a centre of NIFT,Delhi which comes under the Ministry of Textiles,Government of India. Yes the news is correct and we will now be known as National Institute of Fashion Technology,Mohali from the academic session,starting in July 2010, informed director of the Mohali institute,Vijay Sharma. Initiating the process of merger,NIFT,New Delhi,has included Mohali as its proposed centre for admissions this year as well. Since NIFT Delhi awards degrees for the courses,it will benefit our students as well. So far,as NIIFT-Mohali we were only awarding diplomas, mentioned Sharma who feels the merger will benefit both the students as well as the faculty. The NIFT network is fairly large with many centres across the country and we will have access to all of that as well, she pointed out.

For the academic session 2010,the admissions to NIIFT,Mohali would be made by NIFT,Delhi along with their other centres. The programs offered at Mohali centre include the Bachelor in Design – Fashion Design,Textile Design and Knitwear Design as well as Masters in Fashion Technology – Fashion Design. Twenty percent of the seats at Mohali would be reserved for the domicile of Punjab State, added Sharma. So if you are looking to kick-start a career in fashion and wish to apply for admission in NIFT,Mohali then apply to NIFT,Delhi,in response to their advertisement. No separate admissions will be made by NIIFT,Mohali from the coming session, says the director. The last date for submission of applications for admission is January 23.
