From October 3, the number of flights operating at Chandigarh Airport will be reduced from existing 37 to 27, due to the runway up-gradation, according to the fresh schedule released by Chandigarh International Airports Limited (CHIAL). In its new schedule which would be in force from October 3 to 28, several airlines have curtailed their operations due to the limited watch hours at the airport. The first flight from October 3 will land at the airport at 7.10 am while the last flight will take off at 15.45. There will no flight operations on Sundays.
The number of flights is expected to further go down after the implementation of winter schedule at the airport after October 28.
As per the new watch hours, the runway would remain open for civil flights only from 5 am till 4 pm from October 3 to March 31, 2018. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has communicated that the Chandigarh International Airport would remain completely shut for 30 days, on two different occasions of 15 days each, during the resurfacing of the runway.
According to the new schedule, Jet Airways, which currently operates 10 flights, will now operate seven flights.
The IndiGo, which also operates 10 flights, has reduced three of its flights from October 3, according to the schedule. The airline has discontinued its daily flight to Srinagar, and evening flights to Bangalore and Bombay from October 3 and will now operate seven flights.
According to the schedule, SpiceJet will operate four flights while Air India will operate four flights. Air Asia will operate one flight and Vistara will operate two flights at the airport. The GoAir which was operating two flights to Mumbai will now only operate from one flight from October 3.
CHAIL officials said after October 28, they would now release winter schedule. “On October 28, the summer schedule will end and winter schedule will come into force,” said an official.
